5 Self Care tips
After having my second child about 4 months ago, self-care has really become a focus of mine. Well, I thought I already had one kid figured out pretty well so
what was one more. Well, geez has it been a struggle. Don't get me wrong, my perfect little almost 4-month-old is literally the best baby. I got so lucky with
this one. My first? Well... that is another story. LOL. I love both of my girls to the ends of the earth but being a working mother of 2 makes it so easy to
lose your sanity. Between two jobs, a home to take care of, my girls, my pets, my man... where is my mind? I may have lost it a long time ago. LOL.
I know so many mommies out there feel this on some level. So, I decided to put together a list of things that help me keep my sanity.
1. Writing.
I have never really been a good writer. But now more than ever, I just feel so good pouring out what I am feeling on paper. I have to keep a planner with my
appointments and to do lists. On the backside of my daily schedule I sometimes just write out what I am feeling in that moment. Whether it's excitement about
the coming days or stress about the day I just had, it helps me so much to just let it all out. Just let the thought flow freely. It doesn't have to make sense.
It doesn't have to be a perfect essay, paragraph or sentence. Just write. whatever comes to mind.
2. Self Pep Talks (Because you are a baddie)
About a year ago I started doing something that sounded silly at the time, but I decided to try it. Pep talks. To myself *insert laughing face*
Although it might sound silly it REALLY does wonders for your self esteem. Look in the mirror and give yourself a compliment or two. Tell yourself you WILL
achieve your goals. You are doing a good job! Tell yourself YOU ARE THAT CHICK!!! I am a strong believer of speaking things into existence.
Since my first daughter was born, I had decided I would speak beautiful positive things into her so that she would always believe them. Things like
"You are so beautiful" "You are incredibly smart" "You are one of a kind". If it was good enough for my daughter well it should be good enough for me, right?
Speaking these things to yourself on the daily will really start to make you believe it. That self confidence will do wonders for your self esteem.
3. Commit to making time for activities you enjoy (a little therapy anyone)
There are literally soooo many things that I absolutely love to do like reading books, puzzles, shopping, hot baths, and of course family time to name a few.
When we are busy all the time, we think that we can push those things off for another day. Although you really don't have to do any of these things all the
time, you should definitely make it a point to relieve a little stress with your favorite activities. A day out with the family at the beach never hurt
anyone....well unless you got sunburn LOL.
4. Date Night / Girl's night out
One of my favorite self-care tips is date night or girls' night out. OKAY.. I am not going to lie, basically anything that involves a margarita after a long
and busy week! At 30 years old and 2 kids later, I definitely can't hang like I used to. But a little good food and a drink to unwind will definitely do the
trick. And hey, if you don't drink, maybe a night of good dinner (that you don't have to cook) and a movie or dancing. But GET OUT of the house. Go LIVE.
5. Favorite self-care routines
We all have them. Whether it's working out, a long bath and skin care routine, meditation and yoga, routines that help you make it through your day are
such an important part of it. That morning coffee really does make all the difference. Imagine waking up late and having to skip. OH GOD NO. LOL. Maybe you
don't have a routine yet. It's never too late to try to get into one. I have never ever been a person of routine until lately. I have so much going on that
if I don't make myself follow a routine I am completely overwhelmed and I hate myself all day. (Hate?? *Insert cringe face*) yeah that's a little harsh but I
do get pretty upset with myself. Routine is so important.
That was just a few examples of the many things you can do to help you feel good. There are so many others. If you don't have anything and you need a bit
of stress relief maybe try one or two of these. I guarantee if you commit to yourself, your body and soul will thank you for it. Let me know down in the
comments what self-care tip you have for me or what works for you. We can all help each other.
